This simply will force the Packers to make a move. Will they really keep him as a backup? Trade him? Release him?
Personally, I think trading him is their best move. They’ve planned on having Aaron Rodgers starting, and now they have a chance to add another quality player to help the team if they trade Brett. We’ll find out soon…
At a news conference today, Dolphins coach Tony Sparano announced that Jason Taylor won’t be attending any off-season workouts, including training camp.
Taylor denies any problems between him and new VP Bill Parcells, but that is likely at the center of this. Taylor says that “at the end of the day, I will show up and I will do anything I need to do, and I will be the best football player I can be.”
The problem is, no one knows when that day will be…
Marvin Harrison has never had any off-the-field issues and is such an outstanding character, that I can’t even fathom him being investigated for any crime. But sure enough, he’s being investigated for a shooting that occurred outside a bar he owns in Philadelphia. Word is that the bullet that was fired came from one of Harrison’s guns.
I’m just stunned that he’d be involved in anything like this.
I saw this coming with the RB signings the Seahawks made during free agency. And I understand the business end of the deal. But I’m a little sad and annoyed to see the Seahawks just cut Alexander after he’s helped lead them to a Superbowl, won an MVP award and been a pillar of the community. It seems very uncaring.
Keep in mind that I’m a huge Alabama homer and had a geology class with Shaun my freshman year. So I might be a bit biased in all this. But I’d still think that they’d give him one more shot this season to show that he can bounce back from his recent injuries.
McNair was a rare player. He played hurt. He lead his team to within a foot of a Superbowl Championship. He won an MVP. He made professional football relevant in Tennessee after the Oilers moved there.
With all of that, is he a Hall of Famer? Maybe. The MVP trophy and leading his team to a Superbowl are in his favor. But the fact that he never won a championship, missed a lot of games due to injuries and wasn’t a statistically awesome QB like Peyton Manning or Tom Brady may hurt him. And in my opinion, the fact that he hung on for 2 seasons too long may hurt him. In the end, I don’t think McNair will be a HOF’er. He’ll be remembered as one of the really good QB’s, but never a HOF QB.
The Falcons will have what has to be one of the easiest schedules in all of the NFL next year. They play 3 play-off teams (Tampa Bay – twice, Green Bay, San Diego) from last year.
Looks like Vick’s dogfighting is finally paying some dividends.
Well, Chad Johnson has been hinting that he wanted out of Cincinnati for most of the offseason. Now he’s made it semi-official.
If I’m the Bengals, I let him go on draft day and here’s why:
1) He’s been a distraction all offseason and you can’t let that carry into the season. It makes life more difficult on the whole team. Plus, you don’t need a “cancer” in the locker room and that is what he’s become. He’s a toned down version of TO. Ask Donovan McNabb how fun it was to have TO cal him out for an entire offseason. Now Johnson is calling Carson Palmer out and that’s never good for team chemistry.
2) Wait until draft day and you can probably find a team in need of a receiver that would be willing to fork over a 2nd round (maybe even a 1st round) pick for him. Especially if there is a team that has targeted one of the college receivers with their top pick and that player is gone as their pick approaches.
According to ESPN, Pacman Jones will file for reinstatement tomorrow. His suspension is currently going “indefinitely”, so I think they’re at least wanting a specific ending date.
I almost feel a little bad for him. He’s obviously done a lot of stupid stuff and deserved a long suspension, but it’s almost like he can’t win, even when he tries. For example, last June there was a shooting at an Atlanta strip club involving members of his entourage. Pacman wasn’t there, but got destroyed by the press. The short version of the timeline:
He was told to find better friends, because his old friends were trouble.
His old friends went to a strip club, but Pacman wisely didn’t go with them.
They got in trouble.
He got blasted.
Why? He did exactly what he should have done — stayed away from trouble.
His agent, Manny Aurora, makes a good point as well:
“The risk is minimal because he knows this is his last shot. You have a motivated player, and a team paying rock-bottom prices.”
It’ll be interesting to see if Dallas (or anyone else) gives him a shot, once Goodell decisions on his suspension.
