17 months after he was suspended for being an idiot, Adam “don’t call me the Pacman” Jones has been reinstated by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.
Jones says he’s “always wanted to be part of the star” (playing for the Dallas Cowboys) and it understandably pleased with the reinstatement.
Goodell has made a lot of solid moves since he’s become the commish. I agree that Jones should have been suspended, but I also agree that now’s the time to give him another chance. Let’s see what he does with it…

According to ESPN, Pacman Jones will file for reinstatement tomorrow. His suspension is currently going “indefinitely”, so I think they’re at least wanting a specific ending date.
I almost feel a little bad for him. He’s obviously done a lot of stupid stuff and deserved a long suspension, but it’s almost like he can’t win, even when he tries. For example, last June there was a shooting at an Atlanta strip club involving members of his entourage. Pacman wasn’t there, but got destroyed by the press. The short version of the timeline:
- He was told to find better friends, because his old friends were trouble.
- His old friends went to a strip club, but Pacman wisely didn’t go with them.
- They got in trouble.
- He got blasted.
Why? He did exactly what he should have done — stayed away from trouble.
His agent, Manny Aurora, makes a good point as well:
“The risk is minimal because he knows this is his last shot. You have a motivated player, and a team paying rock-bottom prices.”
It’ll be interesting to see if Dallas (or anyone else) gives him a shot, once Goodell decisions on his suspension.
